The ATM group at Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) works across many different subjects to find new solutions.
With experts in different areas, ATM works on problems for society and the environment. ULB has a long history of taking part in European projects to make energy systems more environmentally friendly and to develop new technology. ULB is in charge of the H2AL project, which looks at how to use hydrogen safely in industry and to make industry more climate-friendly.
ULB is the coordinator of H2AL and the leader of a technical work package focused on the design of a novel hydrogen burner.
It's expertise in combustion, sensing equipment, and digital twins will contributee to develop low NOx, energy-efficient hydrogen burners. ULB also leads the collaborative effort to bring together all the partners ensuring smooth communication and integration of expertise across the consortium.
ULB's goal in the H2AL project is to support the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries through hydrogen technology. The project has several goals:
ULB has a range of skills and expertise for the project, including:
The complexity of integrating hydrogen technologies into traditional energy-intensive industries, particularly with regard to ensuring both efficiency and low pollutant emissions, is one of the main challenges H2AL project faces. To address this, H2AL and ULB are using a combination of advanced combustion simulation, experimental validation, and digital twin technologies to monitor and optimize hydrogen combustion processes in real time.
By using its extensive experience in combustion research and working closely with industry partners, ULB develops solutions that are not only technically robust, but also scalable for future industrial applications.
This structure highlights ULB's central role in the project and demonstrates its expertise and leadership in hydrogen technologies.
